Trump's Rally Song

Steel your nerves, have a glass of water handy. I guarantee that at the end of this video, you will physically want to vomit. But that’s not what I’m posting about. I just want to look at this idiotic song and point one thing out:

The WORD SETTING IS EMBARRASSINGLY BAD.

“EN-e-MIEEEEEES OF free-DOMMMMMM”

“coward–ICCCCCCCCCCE”

“the red, white, AND blue!”

“freedom AND, liberTY”

The harmonic schema is a procession of I-V-I-V-I’s, cadencing with a downward chromatic approach to the V. Even the people watching seem vaguely aware that something’s not right.

And they’re right. Not only is Donald Trump’s campaign one of the more revolting embarrassments in modern American political history. But worse, whoever composed this song, the melody of which is a triad in 6/4 inversion articulated ceaselessly, has no CRAFT.

Of course, the point of all fascist music isn’t the music, it’s to articulate rhetoric completely divorced from reality, to create a mood of ecstasy linked to the godlike cult leader. In this case, it’s the ghost of America Past–Donald Trump.
